Deep Questions to Ask Your grandparents
Ever wonder what life was like before smartphones, social media, and FaceTime? Your grandparents have lived through a totally different world, and they have stories that could seriously blow your mind. So while you still have the chance, sit down with them and ask these five deep (and sometimes hilarious) questions—you might just uncover some family secrets!
1. How Did You Meet?
No dating apps, no DMs—so how the heck did they find each other? Their love story might be straight out of a movie. My grandpa was in the Air Force and literally landed his plane in front of my grandma’s house just to pick her up. Talk about making an entrance!
2. What Was Life Like When You Were a Kid?
Was their childhood easy or tough? Were they spoiled or struggling? Their answers might explain why they act the way they do today. My dad’s mom grew up in a wealthy, educated family and never worked a day in her life. Meanwhile, my mom’s mom grew up in poverty, taking care of her younger siblings at just 7 years old. Guess which one turned out angry and strict?
3. What’s the Biggest Lesson You’ve Learned?
This is one I wish I had asked my grandparents. They’ve been through decades of ups and downs, so their advice could actually be life-changing. Imagine skipping years of mistakes just by learning from theirs!
4. What Was My Mom or Dad Like as a Kid? (Spill the Tea!)
Time to get some dirt! Were they rebels or goody-two-shoes? Did they have the same annoying habits they nag you about now? If your parents are strict, insecure, or always people-pleasing, their childhood might explain why. And hey, maybe now you can call them out when they lecture you about your own quirks!
5. If You Could Raise My Parents Differently, What Would You Change?
This one’s deep. If they’re honest, your grandparents might reveal things about your parents that suddenly make everything click—why they act the way they do, why they treat you a certain way, or why they struggle with certain emotions. If they admit they never hugged, praised, or said "I love you" to your parents, that could explain so much about how your parents show (or don’t show) love today.
